Kosovo: After the War
The War in Kosovo forced close to one million ethnic Albanians from the country. It also resulted in the confirmed deaths of 11,000 people (3,000 people are still missing). In 1998 and 1999 the conflict was far from over, NATO bombing, as well as fighting between the KLA and Yugoslav security forces were creating chaos for Kosovo's population, some were fleeing the country and others were being driven out. When the UN passed Resolution 1244 on the 10th of June 1999, it is estimated that 600,000 Albanian returned to Kosovo and up to 250,000 Serbians left along with the Yugoslav security forces.
