Brothels in Athens: The Legal Backstage for Human Trafficking
Legal brothels in Greece's capital, Athens, serve as legitimate fronts for an illegal trade in trafficked women and children. Greece, partly as a consequence of its geographic location, has become both a transit point and final destination for women trafficked from eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the African continent. Today Greece hosts approximately 20,000 victims of trafficking who are forced into sexual slavery within the country's borders and beyond.
