Animals
This series of images were taken between 1995 and 1998 in various locations around the world. Using the tonality of black and white film, the play of light in the environment and the untethered movement of my subjects—animals. Rather than aiming at ‘capturing’ them, as traditional nature photography tends to do, I aimed to portray their freedom. Animals are of course as vulnerable, if not more so, than human beings to the threat of enslavement and of cruelty. In this sense, this body of work relates directly to my documentary work on trafficking, in its depiction of a kind of liberty I believe all beings deserve.
